An Adjective further describes a noun.
If the adjective comes after the noun, it keeps its raw form.
noun + sein + adjective ending
Ex. Der Mann ist groß.
If the adjective comes before the noun, it changes based on the article of the noun...
This first set of adjective endings (in the table below) is used...
after der, die, das, or die (plural)
Ex. Der graue Schalfsack
after dieser, diese, dieses, or diese
Ex. Diese nette Frau
After welcher, welche, welches, or welche
Ex. Welche nette Frau?
This second set of adjective endings is used...
after ein, eine, and ein
Ex. Die Hilfe eines starken Mannes

This third set of adjective endings is used...
when the adjective stands alone before the noun
Ex. Schwarzer Kaffee schmeckt gut.
after einige, ein paar, viele, mehrere, or wenige
Ex. Ein paar schwarze Schuhe.

To turn an adjective into a noun, follow these steps:
Capitalize the adjective.
Change the end of the adjective to agree with the gender, case, and article (type 1, 2, or 3) of the noun.
Ex. Turn the adjective arm (poor) into a noun for a male, female, and a group of people.
--> der Arme, die Arme, and die Armen
--> translations: the poor guy, the poor girl, the poor people
Ex. Turn the adjective deutsch (German) into a noun for a male, female, and a group of people.
--> ein Deutscher, eine Deutsche, Deutsche
--> translations: the German guy, the German girl, the Germans
To describe something as a thing originating from a specific place, follow these steps:
Add -er to the town/place name

Ex. Describe der Dom (the cathedral) as the cathedral from Köln (Cologne (a city in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany).
--> der Kölner Dom
Comparative adjective: used when you want to say that this thing is more __ than something else.
article + noun + sein + adjective - er
(just add -er to the end of the adjective)
Ex. Der Mann ist älter (the man is older).
Superlative adjective: used when you want to say that this thing is the most __ than anything.
article + adjective -ste -ending + noun
(just add -ste and the correct adjective ending)
